“…ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine…”

By Chris Warden

While down the trodden path of sin
Where all in desperation end,
I languished without hope.

You passed my way from time to time
But not one word did your voice chime
To warn me of my hopeless state
To turn me from my doomed life’s fate –
You never mentioned Him to me!

And now I stand in filthy rags
Before the King of Kings.
No voice have I to plead my cause;
No Advocate I see.
The only frantic thought I think
As your eyes meet with mine-
You never mentioned Him to me!

You never told me of Christ’s love –
The cross on Calvary.
You never told me Jesus died,
And that He died for me.
I heard not how He’ll come again
To catch His bride away,
To spend eternity with Him- Of no more night but eternal day –
You never mentioned Him to me!

And now, I stand condemned to pay for all my wicked ways.
My sin has earned a woeful wage;
Eternal hell will be my home,
And just is my reward.
Oh, how I wish I would have heard
Of Jesus’ blood and righteousness
His price to set me free,
And though it was so freely giv’n –
YOU NEVER MENTIONED HIM TO MEI!!’
